Early Years Foundation Stage

EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE

Branston Pre-School Centre follows the Staturory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The EYFS sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

The EYFS has 7 areas of learning and all of our activities incorporate these areas.

The areas of learning are:

  •     communication and language
  •     physical development
  •     personal, social and emotional development
  •     literacy
  •     mathematics
  •     understanding the world
  •     expressive arts and design

Your child will mostly be taught through games and play with the emphasis of the child being able to choose freely throughout the session.  Adult focused activities are also used to help your child learn and develop.

We implement an excellent record keeping system, Tapestry Online Learning Journal, in which observations and records of the children in the group and at home are used as a basis for effective planning promoting each individual child’s learning.  This system encourages parental involvement as by working in partnership we can help your child reach their full potential.

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

In accordance with the EYFS, we aim to provide inclusive provision for all members of our group. This includes children with special educational needs.  The number of adults present in the Pre-School enables us to provide individual attention for each child.  Each child is able to progress at his/her own pace in all areas of development with appropriate support and this is true for children with or without additional needs.  We are experienced in working in close liaison with professionals across a range of additional needs, and we operate in accordance with the government’s Code Of Practice on special educational needs.  Please do not hesitate to speak your child’s Keyworker if you have any concerns (however small). Please see our policy re Special Educational Needs.
